Executive Summary

This strategic research project was designed to investigate the capacity to which Company X reduced their workforce from 2017 to 2023, understand the impacts of the workforce reductions, identify a key reason or reasons the reductions occurred, evaluate a group of solutions to solve the issue, recognize an implementation strategy for the selected solution and develop an overall action plan to execute the strategic initiative. Some of the focus areas to be covered in this project include but are not limited to a description of the setting, SWOT analysis, problem definition, viable solutions, selecting a solution, barriers to implementing the solution, evaluating the best possible solution to execute, develop an action plan, and presenting final recommendations. Company X is a large-scale telecommunication services provider who posted more than $123 billion of annual operating revenues from 2021 to 2023. They have an operating presence in the United States of America, Europe, Mexico, Latin America, and Asia. I love my job and love the people who I work with and changes in my work environment over the past seven years have caused me great stress. Company X have made significant annual headcount reductions from 2017 to 2023. In 2020 there were four engineers performing the job function I perform individually today. I can testify that the number of people has been reduced, but the workload remains the same. Some of the known impacts of workforce reductions include uncertainty, creating lack of trust in management, absenteeism, turnover, shame, disbelief, shock, sadness, and withdrawal among employees. This body of research aims to present the data on workforce reductions over the past seven years and explain how expanding the current telecommunication policy can solve the mystery of the continuous workforce reductions at Company X.
