Executive Summary

Revitalizing Purpose and Productivity: Solutions for Instructional Design Challenges in the Corporate Healthcare Sector. This strategic research project was designed to provide a comprehensive approach to addressing productivity challenges faced by instructional designers (IDs) within a large healthcare organization. This project aims to explore how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) can enhance workforce efficiency, creativity, and engagement, aligning with the organization’s strategic goals for digital transformation. By leveraging GenAI tools, the project seeks to revitalize the sense of purpose among IDs while addressing operational inefficiencies.

The identified problem focuses on one of the organization's critical factors: increasing productivity and creativity among IDs while maintaining high-quality training outputs. Many IDs reported losing their sense of purpose due to repetitive tasks and a lack of time for innovation, highlighting the urgency to improve processes and support their roles. The proposed solution centers on integrating GenAI into the instructional design process. GenAI’s ability to automate routine tasks, such as content creation and media production, allows IDs to focus on high-impact, creative work, ultimately improving productivity and job satisfaction.

The strategy selected involves a phased implementation of GenAI tools, supported by a Responsible AI (RAI) framework to ensure ethical compliance, data security, and alignment with organizational standards. The action plan includes a seven-step approach, beginning with governance council approval and targeted training, then pilot testing, monitoring, and a gradual rollout across departments.

Recommendations emphasize establishing clear policies for GenAI use, providing ongoing training for IDs, and maintaining ethical oversight through regular audits. By adopting these measures, the organization can ensure sustainable integration of GenAI, enabling long-term benefits such as enhanced employee engagement, higher-quality outputs, and strengthened organizational efficiency.
