This strategic research project was developed to underscore the necessity of fostering a positive school culture that addresses the diverse needs of all students through the integration of teacher leaders. By embracing transformational leadership, school leaders can inspire teachers and staff to perform at their highest potential—not merely because they are directed to, but because they feel motivated and play a vital role within the school community. Their commitment to achieving the school-wide goals is enhanced in this supportive environment.
A SWOT analysis of the organization revealed critical internal and external factors influencing the operations of the school. To address these challenges, a literature review was conducted to investigate transformational leadership and examine how teachers can serve as catalysts for implementing support and promoting a school culture that nurtures all students academically, socially, and emotionally. Two primary strategies emerged: enhancing teacher job satisfaction and cultivating teacher leadership. The Quantitative Strategic Matrix Tool (QSPM) highlighted that promoting teacher leadership was the most effective solution, achieving the highest total attractiveness score (TAS) of 5.13 when evaluated against relevant internal and external factors.
Following the identification of the optimal solution, an action plan was developed for implementing teacher leadership. The action plan encompasses several steps: (a) identifying potential candidates for teacher leadership roles, (b) establishing and approving the expectations for these teacher leaders, (c) assigning mentors to support them, (d) setting school-wide goals for teacher leaders to communicate with their colleagues, and (e) maintaining ongoing communication with the administration to refine and enhance strategies for success.
Throughout the literature review, both transformational leadership and the role of teacher leaders underscored the importance of robust support systems in meeting the diverse needs of all students and nurturing a positive school culture.
