Abstract
Simonson assesses the 2004 study, Entering the Mainstream, authored by E. Alle and J. Seaman, that reported several interesting conclusions including an increase of nearly 20% to enrollments in distance-delivered courses in 2003. Supported by the Sloan Foundation, this monograph is a follow-up to a similar study reported last year, titled Sizzling the Opportunity. Of critical interest to distance education professionals were the study's findings about the perceptions of quality of online instruction. In this view, Simonson argues that entering the mainstream is a goal achieved only if quality is there in the mainstream, also.
