Abstract

This applied dissertation was designed to develop a course in organ transplant education. The Master’s Degree in Community Health Education program had within its courses some organ transplant education topics. However, the courses did not provide graduates with an appropriate level of proficiency in organ donation and transplantation. No specific Organ Transplant Education course had been designed.

The Organ Transplant Education course for the Master’s Degree in Community Health Education program was developed to provide graduates with a rigorous foundation of comprehensive knowledge, competencies, and skills in organ transplant education. This course was designed to provide students with a conceptual understanding of its applicability in real-world situations.

Teachers were encouraged to create an effective learning environment that accommodated a variety of the learning styles and emphasized the use of innovative teaching techniques and methodologies of instruction. An implementation plan and an ongoing evaluation plan were developed also. Implementation of the course opened a gateway to success in a variety of careers in health education and health-related sciences. The ongoing evaluation plan involved administrators, faculty, counselors, and students in a constructive assessment process designed to provide a solid foundation for designing new health education courses.
