Abstract

Florida is located on the eastern coast of the North American continent. It is bounded on the east by the North Atlantic Ocean, on the west by the Gulf of Mexico, and on the south by the Straights of Florida. Florida is chiefly a peninsula. Florida is the only state of the contiguous forty-eight states that is located entirely within the coastal zone. What makes Florida so appealing is its location and climate. These two factors have also made Florida unique. Any development on the land in Florida will also impact Florida's coastal zone (The Floridians, Florida: The Setting, 2006)
