Abstract
The following literature review is an assessment of the role of education in the marine reserve process. To clarify, the "MPA process" includes the social, economic, governmental and communal processes involved in the designation, creation, and long term sustainability of protected marine areas. The definition of a marine protected area in this paper is generally inclusive of all its types (no take, limited take, reserves, etc.) unless otherwise specified in the immediate text. This literature review will examine the role of education in the MPA process by considering both the pedagogical theories driving policy and it's the effectiveness of its real world implementation.
