Abstract

Our wastewater contains diverse and detailed information about the biology of urban populations. In this talk I will summarize recent work by NSU investigators in which RT-qPCR assays and sequencing of sewage samples from just 10 treatment facilities predicted the spread and evolution of SARS-CoV-2 strains within ~2 million South Florida residents. I will also briefly preview some unrelated, newer work in my lab that asks how social bonding between humans and canines impacts both species at molecular levels.
