As a first-generation college student, earning an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Nova Southeastern University is an accomplishment and experience for which I will always be appreciative. During my academic journey, I had the opportunity to conduct research on the microbiomes of invasive green iguanas in Florida under the mentorship of Dr. Omar T. Eldakar, Dr. Andrew Ozga, and Dr. Christopher Blanar. Their guidance, along with the support of faculty, have motivated me to challenge myself, strengthen my confidence, and always be curious in the field of science.

To current and future students, always be very proud of how far you have come and don’t be afraid to challenge yourself. New things will always be a little scary, but those new things often come with the greatest opportunities and experiences. With hard work and perseverance, no goal is impossible or out of reach. Education is one of the greatest gifts we are provided, so dream as big as you can, stay curious, and believe in yourself!
