Description

The purpose of this laboratory is to determine the apparent acid dissociation constant, 𝐾_a, by estimating the p𝐾_a value of a porphyrin using visible spectrophotometry. This apparent p𝐾_a value is measured by graphic interpolating the absorbance changes obtained at varied wavelengths for different acid concentrations using the Henderson–Hasselbach equation.
