Artist Statement
I have always found it amazing how the creations of nature and of humans can blend together to form beautiful sceneries and structures, melding two seemingly clashing elements into one harmonious picture. I took this picture near Harper's Ferry while on a hike, and I was struck by how the old bridge and railway seemed to grow right out of the mountainside. Sometimes we think of buildings and nature as opposites, but seeing them tucked together like that reminded me that they can tell a wonderful story when they coexist. I find myself drawing parallels between symbolism in the world, and how many different types of people blend into a thriving community, showing that we are more than our differences, and all together can make a beautiful picture as well.
