Artist Statement
This picture was taken in a local school in Gujarat, India. These happy girls, who shied away from the camera, walk miles every day to attend their school that does not have a roof. This picture represents their commitment to a better future and my commitment to the people of the country of my birth as I continue my training.

About the Artist
Bhavik Upadhyay is a First Year Medical Student.
I was born and raised in India and moved to United States more than a decade ago. Prior to starting osteopathic school I worked as a Physician Assistant at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center near Los Angeles. I’m passionate about international medicine and see myself as a Doctor working beyond borders one day. In addition, I love photography and most of these pictures were taken at the medical mission camp to India during winter break of 2015.
