Abstract
The purpose of this project was to conduct an evaluation of the utilization of the Systematic Curriculum and Instructional Development (SCID) model. Current curriculum development models were researched, experiences of the technical centers were evaluated, elements for a curricula development model were researched, a pilot implementation was performed, and based on the pilot evaluation recommendations were made for the future adoption of the SCID model.
The methodologies that were utilized include the evaluation, development, and research methodologies. The procedures used to conduct the project were, (a) reviewing the literature, (b) appointing and meeting with formative and summative committees, (c) creating criteria and developing interview questions for SCID and non-SCID users, (d) analyzing information to determine the essential criteria for curricula design, (e) developing and administering questionnaires for a panel of experts to determine the effectiveness of the process, (f) recording and analyzing the results, and (g) disseminating the results, with recommendations, to the administrators of the center.
The results of the study revealed 12 criteria for an effective curriculum development. The questionnaires to the panel of experts supported ten of the 12 criteria.
The study concluded that the SCID model is effective for the technical centers. The most significant impact would be building productive partnerships with the industry.
Recommendations from the study include investigating the use of technology in the DACUM process, identifying programs that needed learning guides and refining the task analysis process. Further, recommendations involved collecting the data to support the model.
