Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a curriculum document for a course in business communication that focused on oral communication for office administration majors at Evergreen Valley College (EVC). The business communication literature and current textbooks in business communication were reviewed to determine relevant objectives, content, methods of instruction and types of evaluation for the course. Formative evaluation of the curriculum document was achieved by having two experts in the field of business communication evaluate its appropriateness as a community college transfer course in business communication and to offer suggestions for strengthening the course. This study resulted in the design of a business communication course based on accepted curriculum principles and EVC's curriculum requirements. As a result of this study, EVC was assisted in its efforts to provide students with a relevant course to help increase their effectiveness in the business environment through improved oral communication performance and in updating the curriculum of the office administration major.
