Abstract
The collaborative counseling program between Ramsay Counseling Center, Discovery, and Roy Allen Elementary Schools was not operating effectively. The purpose of this project was to develop an improved program. The program included a policy and procedures manual, a training program, and plans for implementation and evaluation.
The research was based on 5 questions that asked about the relevance of the literature to the study as well as questions leading to an improved collaborative counseling program.
The procedures included a literature review, establishment of formative and summative committees, assessment of counselors’ and educators’ needs, development of the design and content for a collaborative counseling program, and plans for implementation and evaluation. Results included the printing of a handbook, a training program, and a plan for implementation and evaluation.
The collaborative counseling program was based on a synthesis of the results of the literature review, data collection, and suggestions from the committees responsible for the improved collaborative counseling program.
Recommendations included the continued use of the key-shaped bookmark as a symbol for collaboration, periodic review of the literature be provided to the stakeholders, continued program evaluation be conducted, collaboration between counselors and educators continue, parents be given specific information about the program, and future research be designed to study the correlation between on-site counseling and student achievement.
