Abstract
The purpose of this applied dissertation project was to develop a training program on the policies at Mohave Community College. In May, 2001, the Institute of Research at Mohave Community College created a survey to determine both the importance and understanding of college policies. The survey, which was distributed to all full-time and part-time faculty, as well as to staff members, indicated a gap between the importance of college policies and the understanding of college policies. Ultimately, the results of the survey indicated a need for training in the areas concerning the sexual harassment policy, copyright laws, the intellectual property policy, and safety procedures.
There were four research questions addressed in this study which resulted in the design and development of a training program on the policies at Mohave Community College, with a plan for evaluation.
To complete this project, five procedures were followed: (a) a review of the literature regarding litigation in higher education, (b) review of how to design training programs, (c) use of the formative committee to review draft of product, (d) use of summative committee to validate the product, (e) creation of plan to evaluate the training once implemented at Mohave Community College.
Based on the research, a comprehensive training program on the intellectual property policy, copyright policy, sexual harassment policy, as well as safety procedures of Mohave was developed. Along with the product, it was recommended that training be implemented immediately, evaluated to ensure learning was occurring, continue with further research to keep abreast of the changing laws, and be made a requirement for all faculty and staff, through the Human Resource Office on a semi-annual basis.
