Abstract

Academic advising is an essential tool utilized by post-secondary institutions to increase student persistence. This qualitative research study examines the perceptions undergraduate African American males have about their academic advising experiences. Themes in the literature regarding those admitted to Predominately White Institutions (PWIs) or Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are distinct in the factors that foster their persistence.
