3M experiences similar challenges as any other large global firm to develop strategies that enhance their core competencies and keep them competitive. Using such popular concepts as the SWOT analysis, the five forces model, and the balanced scorecard approaches, this case provides a review of 3M’s strategic positioning and their progress over the last few decades in creating, sustaining and retaining an intrapreneurial culture
