Abstract

This paper will take the case of the Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), the highly migratory fish that transcends countries’ exclusive economic zones, and make sense of the struggle. The aforementioned web of intrigue will be examined one strand at a time until the entirety can be understood as a whole. We will begin with discussion of the nature of fisheries and the economics of fisheries and then move on to the biology and fisheries management of Atlantic bluefin tuna (ABFT) in particular. From there we will be ready to examine each element involved and then be able to move on to recommendations for the future management of the stock.
