Abstract
This presentation challenges the concept of boundaries within the therapeutic relationship through mutual exploration of what trauma means to the patient, therapist, academic and women in general. Understanding how evidence based practices prescribed for the treatment of trauma are in themselves oppressive, our presentation narrates an autoenthographic journey of two women who, during therapy sessions of 2 years, initially dislodge power hierarchies within their relationship and then together challenge the western framework of normativity regarding diagnosis and treatment. The co-constructed narrative dismantles medical and societal systems that perpetuate the trauma, opening space where the patient can explore pathologizing and shaming discourses. Our decision to make identifies known further challenges cultural discourses that infer healing be anonymous and silent behind professional doors.
