Abstract
Chronic diseases are defined as illnesses that are prolonged, do not resolve spontaneously and which are rarely cured. They constitute 46 percent of global burden of diseases and are responsible for 59 percent of deaths in Canada. Regardless of the variety of available treatments, a vast majority of patients with chronic conditions report they don't receive care they need. I will explore two theoretical perspectives to provide the basis for alternative conceptualization of CDM.
