Abstract

This study explored the meaning of college success to black males who have made commitments to attending college. It is an enquiry into how that group explains the notion of college success. That phenomenon is examined using semi-structured interviews and cross-case techniques for data analysis. It is also explained through Maslow’s theory of Self-actualization. As the literature seems to lack research on that issue, results show that the participants’ perceptions of the meaning of college success may defer from the conventional notion and could inform discourse on that topic.
