Some Catalan Musings
Description
The latest talk in the Mathematics Colloquium Series will convey the richness and diversity of the famous Catalan numbers sequence (1, 1, 2, 5, 14, 42, 132…). This sequence is perhaps the most ubiquitous and intriguing one arising in combinatorics.
The speaker has written a monograph on Catalan numbers including 214 combinatorial interpretations. He will give a sampling of items from this monograph including the history of Catalan numbers, combinatorial interpretations, and connections with other areas of mathematics.
