Abstract

Case Study Background. The following is a description of what we believe to be the first reported survivor of a delayed transdiaphragmatic hepatic rupture complicated by an acute superior vena cava and thoracic compartment syndrome. Method. Retrospective review of a case report at a regional trauma center. Conclusion. To our knowledge, the case presented is the first and only reported survivor of a delayed transdiaphragmatic hepatic rupture complicated by an acute superior vena cava and thoracic compartment syndrome. This case highlights the need for cooperative intervention of the part of the surgeons, anesthesiologists, and critical care team needed for a successful outcome in the management of an acute traumatic superior vena cava and thoracic compartment syndrome.
