Abstract
Three very different configurations of conferences dot the educational technology landscape today: large with thousands of attendees, small with fewer than 500 people, and virtual. It is difficult to obtain size data, except for the very large that brag about the number of attendees, but there are some easy rules of thumb to follow. National conferences are larger than regional, which in turn are larger than state offerings. Those sponsored by special interest groups tend to be smaller than those with multiple foci. Virtual conferences are those in which participants meet through their computers and are clearly identified as such.
