Abstract

Today, effective qualitative research requires strong interpersonal skills, openness to the use of technology, and an expansive, up-to-date, understanding of methods, both quali- and quantitative. We present a case of instructional design research that evolved from reliance on real-time observation and interview techniques to use of technologies such as SkypeTM screen/audio capture and backend metrics. We present a preliminary model of technology value-added in instructional design research.
