Proposal Description
This presentation centers on the training and research Dr. Georgakopoulos and her team from the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies is conducting with BRDGS ACADEMY and former President of Mediator Beyond Borders Lynn Cole in partnership with Pereiaslav University (located in Ukraine) to train and certify students and faculty advisors from University at Pereiaslav to adapt to a post war Ukraine with conflict resolution approaches and processes. Also, the presentation will include a discussion of the Peer Mentorship Program that has been developed between both universities to develop community across borders.
The presentation will cover the elements of the training involved in the Ukrainian Ambassador program, where involved Ukrainians will learn about conflict and how to approach it through conflict resolution mechanisms of using local action, resistance movements, social media coverage, mediation, sustainable dialogue, media...etc. The training will explore how these techniques can be uniquely applied in Ukrainian Communities. The focus will be on collaborative practice involving interdisciplinary teams working together to solve disputes. It is a conflict approach that harnesses the power of the people through local action, grassroots activism, community engagement, civic leadership, and the global response. This presentation will share how people at various levels have agency and power to promote change and conflict transformation for a future Ukraine.
