Proposal Description

Peace is not only signed at negotiating tables, but is more broadly an ongoing process that is built by all of us day by day. After years of violence in Colombia, daily interactions are often affected by judgement and mistrust. Nonviolent communication (NVC), as developed by Marshall Rosenberg, is a tool for fostering empathy and building connection across difference. Resuena is an organization that has been offering trainings across Colombia to build connections in ways that generate confidence to foster collaborations around needs that unite people. They offer nonviolent communication schools in 15 municipios (counties) with people from areas impacted by the conflict, and have created a national network of NVC facilitators from these regions. As well as this in-person work they send a daily WhatsApp lesson received by over 5,000, and hold weekly online practice sessions. This work and its impact was evaluated through both quantitative and qualitative measures and will be presented here.
