Description

Dendrogyra cylindrus is a locally extinct species of coral on the Southeast Florida Reef Tract. A fragment of Dcyl was removed from a wild colony and brought to the NSU coral nursery offshore Ft. Lauderdale. The fragment of Dcyl pictured here has continued to grow and it provides hope that we can grow Dcyl in a nursery setting and potentially outplant the species back on the reef to help their population recover.
