Abstract

These are exciting times in higher education (HE). Economic constraints coupled with rising tuitions and fees and tighter student loan rules have opened the doors to change. The change element, called the MOOC (massive open online course), labeled as a disruption or more dramatically, a tsunami, is less than two years old. See the first editorial in this volume for a description of the phenomenon that changes definition as we type. Whether one is pro or con, it is important to determine how the enabling technology may be used to improve the state of HE.
