Abstract

This applied dissertation aimed to understand and effectively address bullying among students by examining educators' perceptions to determine if bullying and cyberbullying affect the academic performance of middle school students in South Florida. The researcher conducted face-to-face interviews using a qualitative method. Moreover, the selected sample consisted of 8 participants. This applied dissertation examined educators' perceptions of bullying and middle school student's academic performance in South Florida to understand and address bullying among students. After a thorough review of recent literature and teacher participants’ replies to interview questions, the results proved that bullying and cyberbullying do affect students' academic performance.

Since the school had no clear strategy to address bullying across all forms, research sources from this study were applied to identify the types and causes of bullying at the middle school level. In addition, this study provides information for designing an effective school policy that addresses bullying and cyberbullying for students, teachers, administrators, and parents. School-based bullying prevention and treatment programs are recommendations to reduce school bullying in the study.
