Short Description

This interactive session identifies a plan to provide guidance for new faculty; the onboarding process, developing skills within the LMS, and comfort level with becoming an online instructor. As the Center for eLearning is truly a service-oriented component for the entire University, this session shares a scaffolding process for faculty, especially those new to the institution, designed to provide them with support during those initial challenges.

Abstract

This session shares a process for supporting faculty, new or current, within the university through an ID facilitated, self- paced Canvas workshop, New Faculty Onboarding Workshop. We will share research on successful mentoring of new faculty We will also identify how the Workshop brings participants into the existing Center for eLearning Community of Practice. The Virtual Community of Practice is a valuable resource for all participants, a place to share experiences and learn with colleagues.

Session Objectives:

  1. Describe development process
  2. Demonstrate components of the workshop
  3. Compare application for various levels (Higher Ed, K-12, Military, Industry)
  4. Share successes

Workshop Description: The New Faculty Onboarding Workshop for Florida Atlantic University provides essential information for faculty to begin their online teaching journey.
