Objectives:

  1. To raise public awareness of symbolic violence/Eurocentrism as an existing phenomenon in the classroom that contributes to exclude, disengage, and marginalize minority students.
  2. To stress the importance of creating a diverse and a more equitable curriculum that takes into consideration all students’ affinities.
  3. To provide educators as well as policy makers with an understanding of the negative impacts of symbolic violence in the classroom, so they can be better informed to initiate changes that could mitigate its effects on minority students.
